To help you do this you had this letter of Paul's. It was the one piece of New Testament that you had, and hopefully, soon you would be getting more. Amongst the distractions competing with Paul, and detractors speaking against Paul there were annual and seasonal "Games" the biggest held in the month of May, and these were generally held in this provincial capital. Paul speaks of 'fighting with wild beasts at Ephesus'. Also in the city were the headquarters for Asia Minor of the cult of the Emperor which encouraged the worship of the State and Caesar as a divine being. The practice of magic and fortune telling was widespread. It was one of the wealthiest cities of the world with at least a hundred thousand slaves, and so there existed a chasm between the lifestyles of the rich and the poor, Christian and non-Christian. Come, be with us Sunday morning at 10:45 and let's consider that cultural implications and the practical applications of faith in Jesus Christ. Sermon Outline: HOW ARE OUR ATTEMPTS AT WITNESS SIMILAR TO THOSE OF THE EPHESIANS? 1. THE CHRISTIAN LIFE IS CENTERED UPON THE TRIUNE GOD. 2. THE CHRISTIAN LIFE IS ONE OVERWHELMED WITH SPIRITUAL BLESSINGS. a] God has blessed us in the heavenly realms. b] These blessings are strictly found in Christ. c] These blessings are Spiritual in nature but practical in application 3. THE CHRISTIAN LIFE IS NOT PERFECT, RATHER, PROGRESSIVE, PERSEVERING, PRESERVING, PERFECTING.
